Corporate DNA or the enterprise double helix was supposed to be where business values lived, the “way we do things around here”, and so on.
Now, business DNA and its potential for harbouring business continuity may be set for a comeback, but not as an airy-fairy concept. This time, it really could be engrained in the business or rather in the people who represent the business.
Engrained in people? Biomedical engineers have recently built tiny machines out of human DNA components.
It’s early days yet, but the potential is there to combine the components to make logic gates, making decisions based on information transmitted in bits and bytes fashion. The machines can also be used to amplify signals. The rectangular arrays are about 50 nanometres wide and a few hundred nanometres long.
This is a little smaller than a flu virus. So far, the engineers have been working in two dimensions, but plan to explore a third dimension in the future.
Now factor in other work done a little while back to make DNA into memory locations for storing information.
This gives bio-informatics building blocks for tiny, yet powerful computers able to use locally stored information to act, control, and operate other components or systems.
Whether they will be able to write their output back into the DNA storage providing their input remains to be seen.
But by storing business continuity oriented data and instructions in the first place, you might conceivably enhance a person’s propensity for BC. And in any case, that glib expression “It’s in our DNA” will take on a whole new meaning.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
